2016 NFL Mock Draft - Post Scouting Combine

Here is my Post Scouting Combine 2016 NFL Mock Draft. It will be followed by updates heading into the NFL Draft on April 28, 2016.

This is not a mock draft where I substitute my judgement for that of the teams. Instead, I try to research the opinions of those who most closely follow NFL teams like scouts, insiders and beat writers from all of the NFL cities. I then try to make the most educated prediction as to which way each team will go in the draft.

My mock draft has been linked by DC Pro Sports ReportWalter Football, The Huddle Report, EDS Football, NFL Pro Zach, and SleeperU.com in their Mock Draft Databases, so click their links to check out all of their draft related materials and content.

1st Round

1. Tennessee Titans – Laremy Tunsil, LT, Mississippi:

With a young franchise quarterback already on their roster, Tennessee could consider trading down a few spots and accumulating more picks with a team that needs a signal caller, but if you don't think the Titans won't select left tackle Laremy Tunsil after trading for running back DeMarco Murray, you're crazy.

2. Cleveland Browns – Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State:

Another year, another general manager, another head coach, another offensive coordinator, and yet another quarterback for the Browns. Carson Wentz could finally provide the franchise with some much needed stability at a key position for years to come. Unfortunately, he's not a slam dunk pick, as his accuracy and level of competition still remain at issue, so Cleveland fans are facing yet another leap of faith.

3. San Diego Chargers  Jalen Ramsey, S/CB, Florida State:

Jalen Ramsey checked all the boxes with his performance at the NFL Scouting Combine. With the Chargers and Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle set to part ways, Ramsey could not only serve as a replacement, but as an improvement.

4. Dallas Cowboys Luquon Treadwell, WR, Mississippi

Legendary Cowboy GM Gil Brandt has reported that Jerry Jones has informed him that the Cowboys are not looking at a quarterback with their #4 overall selection, and I tend to believe what Brandt has to say. If Dallas intends to ride with Tony Romo for the next several years, he could use another target at wide receiver like Luquon Treadwell of Mississippi to help open up the offense.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars – Joey Bossa, DE, Ohio State:

Joey Bossa's production never quite lived up to his hype at Ohio State, but he is still highly regarded by many scouts based upon his length, athleticism, versatility, and potential. By playing opposite of Dante Fowler, Jr., Bossa might actually put up some decent sack totals early in his NFL career.

6. Baltimore Ravens - DeForest Buckner, DT, Oregon:

DeForest Buckner would give the Ravens a high impact defensive end who could give them an elite inside/outside presence that they've been lacking in recent years.

7. San Francisco 49'ers – Jared Goff, QB, California:

The 49'ers are in quarterback limbo right now with Colin Kaepernick, and need to look to the draft in order to rebuild for the future. Local product Jared Goff of Cal would give San Francisco with a franchise quarterback to build around in Chip Kelly's new system.

8. Miami Dolphins - Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson:

Olivier Vernon is presently in the mix as a pass rusher for the Dolphins after being tagged as their "Franchise Player," but Shaq Lawson of Clemson would represent a much cheaper alternative for the salary cap strapped Dolphins should they decide to cut ties. A free agent signing could also be in the mix.

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida:

Tampa Bay had the second worst secondary in the NFL last season. The question that the Buc's need to address is whether or not to solve that problem by adding a talented corner or improving their pass rush. For now, Vernon Hargreaves of Florida represents a better value as the best pure corner on the board, as opposed to settling for the third or fourth rated defensive end.

10. New York Giants – Reggie Ragland, LB, Alabama:

The Giants could use a quarterback for their defense. Reggie Ragland of Alabama is an athletic, yet intelligent three down player who could play a part in reviving the Giants' front seven.

11. Chicago Bears – Myles Jack, LB, UCLA:

The Bears are in the market for a new play making linebacker, and Myles Jack of UCLA fits the bill. He can cover a receiver like a nickel back does, but  he has the body and run stopping skills of a middle linebacker.

12. New Orleans Saints – Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Oklahoma State:

A pass rusher and a corner have to be the Saints' two biggest needs, and those are two really big needs. With a hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense, Emmanuel Ogbah of Oklahoma State would be an ideal fit as a much needed edge rusher.

13. Philadelphia Eagles - Ronnie Stanley, LT, Notre Dame:

With Jason Peters and Lane Johnson, the Eagles appear set at offensive tackle. On the other hand, Peters has been often injured, the Eagles have expressed a desire in improving their offensive line. Either Ronnie Stanley of Notre Dame or Jack Conklin of Michigan State would be no brainer picks if they were available when Philadelphia picks at the #13 spot.

14. Oakland Raiders – Jack Conklin, T, Michigan State:

Offensive tackle is an area where the Raiders could stand to improve. Jack Conklin is a former walk-on who developed into a three year starter at left tackle for Michigan State, where he excelled in an extremely complex blocking system against elite competition.

15. Los Angeles Rams – Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis:

The Rams have a talented defense and a bell cow running back, but still lack a franchise quarterback as well as a true No. 1 wide receiver. Paxton Lynch of Memphis is a risky pick based upon the lower level of competition that he played against as well as his lack of familiarity with a pro-style offense, but he certainly has an NFL caliber arm.

16. Detroit Lions Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville:

The Lions are in the market starting caliber offensive and defensive tackles in this year's draft. If the top three offensive tackles are off the board, the Lions would love to find a play maker at defensive tackle like Louisville's Sheldon Rankins to help replace last year's loss of Ndamukong Suh.

17. Atlanta Falcons – A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama:

The Falcons need to improve their defensive line in general, as they struggled against the run and in the pass rush. While not an elite pass rusher from the tackle position, A'Shawn Robinson can provide a little bit of push from the inside while stuffing the run at the same time.

18. Indianapolis Colts – Taylor Decker, T, Ohio State:

Pass protection for Andrew Luck remains the biggest issue in Indianapolis, and a starting caliber tackle like Taylor Decker of Ohio State would help solidify their offensive line.

19. Buffalo Bills – Noah Spence, DE, Eastern Kentucky:

With Mario Williams wearing out his welcome in Buffalo, the Bills should be in the market for another defensive end. Noah Spence of Eastern Kentucky, formerly of Ohio State, is not only a physical specimen, but he was a better pass rusher than Joey Bossa during his time in Columbus, and could help fill Williams' role as an elite pass rusher.

20. New York Jets
 – Leonard Floyd, DE/OLB, Georgia:

With Mo Wilkerson's future in New York uncertain at best, the Jets could use a legitimate pass rusher from the edge in order to return Sheldon Richardson back to the trenches where he belongs. Leonard Floyd of Georgia has disappointed in terms of performance on the field, but possesses all of the measurables to be molded into an elite NFL 3-4 outside linebacker given the right coaching staff.

21. Washington Redskins - Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Mississippi:

The Redskin defensive line needs an upgrade, and while Robert Nkemdiche has some character issues off the field, Washington would love to see an athlete of his ability fall to them at the later end of the first round.

22. Houston Texans, - Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State:

Despite some false reports going around, Connor Cook is a high character quarterback who is viewed as a leader by all of his teammates. Having watched all of his snaps 2-3 times, and having read every single article from Detroit's three major news publications, I've never heard ANYBODY speak poorly of his leadership or character.  More importantly, and unlike most college prospects, Cook is an NFL ready signal caller who can go through pro-style progressions and stands tall in the pocket. His footwork is heads and shoulders above that of any other quarterback prospect in this draft class. While Cook did have some accuracy issues, particularly on some of his shorter throws, he's also been very safe with the football throughout his career at Michigan State. Cook is probably not a good fit for a west Coast offensive system, but should flourish in a team that employs a vertical passing attack like the Texans.

23. Minnesota Vikings - Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor:

Mike Wallace hasn't exactly worked out in Minnesota, and Corey Coleman of Baylor would give Teddy Bridgewater and the Vikings a much needed true vertical threat at wide receiver.

24. Cincinnati Bengals - Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame:

Cincinnati is faced with the prospect of wide receiver Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu testing free agency in a market that is very thin. Rather than over paying for one of their own, the relatively deep Bengals may be in a better position to look to fill their void at receiver through the draft. Will Fuller of Notre Dame is a big time play maker who would provide the perfect compliment to A.J. Green at wide receiver and Tyler Eifert at tight end in terms of stretching opposing defenses.

25. Pittsburgh Steelers Eli Apple, CB, Notre Dame:

With several key players expected to return following injuries in 2015, the Steelers biggest offseason need is in their secondary. Eli Apple of Ohio State is an athletic freak who should develop into a much needed playmaker in the Steelers' secondary.

26. Seattle Seahawks - Kenny Clark, DT, UCLA:

The Seahawks have lost a lot of talent and depth along their once stout defensive line since their Super Bowl run two years ago. Kenny Clark of UCLA would be an immediate plug and play at defensive tackle, who's play is similar to All Pro defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.

27. Green Bay Packers Darron Lee, LB, Ohio State:

The Packers need to figure out what they're doing at inside/outside linebacker and find Clay Matthews a forever home. Rumor has it that Green Bay wants to move Matthews back outside permanently after he's rotated from inside to outside the last two seasons depending on the situation. Darron Lee played outside linebacker in a 4-3 scheme at Ohio State, but has many of the same attributes that Matthews brought to inside linebacker in Green Bay's 3-4 scheme in terms of coverage and blitzing. The only question is whether his blazing 40 time of 4.47 at the Scouting Combine will put him out of Green Bay's reach come pick #27.

28. Kansas City Chiefs Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor:

The Chiefs could use a 3-4 defensive end with interior lineman Jaye Howard and Mike DeVito possibly departing via free agency. Andrew Billings is a barrel chested, high motor machine in the middle out of Baylor, who would serve as an immediate compliment to incumbent nose tackle, Dontari Poe.

29. Arizona Cardinals - Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor:

Arizona is desperately seeking another outside pass rusher. Shawn Oakman of Baylor is a physical specimen at edge rusher in the mold of Calais Campbell, but may need some time to develop a NFL motor.

30. Carolina Panthers - Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson

After falling short of a Super Bowl victory, the Panthers have holes to fill at corner, defensive end and offensive tackle. Given the likely talent available, this would be an ideal spot for the Panthers to trade down with a team seeking either a top notch quarterback or defensive tackle. If Carolina stays put, they could look to a local product like Clemson pass rusher, Kevin Dodd.

31. Denver Broncos Jason Spriggs, T, Indiana:

Denver has a decision to make on their highly priced and injury prone left tackle, Ryan Clady. Jason Spriggs of Indiana is a physical brawler who could offer them a cheap replacement and allow the Broncos to spend their available cap space on other pending free agents like DeMarcus Ware or Malik Jackson.

*(The New England Patriots Forfeited Their 1st Round Pick Due to the Deflate Gate Scandal)

2nd Round

32. Cleveland Browns - Jarran Reed, DT, Alabama:

The Browns swung and missed on nose tackle Phil Taylor, and are still looking for a viable option to help stop the run. Fortunately, this is an extremely deep draft when it comes to defensive tackles, so several first round talents like Jarran Reed of Alabama should still be available at the top of the 2nd round.

33. Tennessee Titans - Braxton Miller, QB, Ohio State

If the Titans could anchor their offensive line with Laremy Tunsil and then come back in the second round and grab another receiver, it would greatly benefit Marcus Mariota in his development. Braxton Miller is a recent convert to wide receiver, but turned heads with his performance all week at the Senior Bowl.

34. Dallas Cowboys - Sheldon Day, DT, Notre Dame:

The Cowboys need some bulk on the interior of their defensive line, and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli apparently fell in love with Sheldon Day during their time working together at the Senior Bowl.

35. San Diego Chargers - Josh Doctson, WR, TCU:

The Chargers could use a viable option to play opposite of Keenan Allen. Josh Doctson is a big receiver who backed up his huge numbers at TCU by running better than expected at the Scouting Combine.

36. Baltimore Ravens - Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama:

The Ravens interest in Trent Richardson seems like a classic smokescreen to mask Ozzie Newsome's potential interest in yet another Alabama alum at running back in Heisman Trophy winner, Derrick Henry.

37. San Francisco 49'ers - Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech:

Vernon Butler is a mammoth small school defensive tackle who showed surprising athleticism and starred at the Senior Bowl.

38. Miami Dolphins - Su'A Cravens, S/LB, USC:

Whether you look at the versatile Su'A Cravens of USC as an outside linebacker or strong safety, he could be a plug and play for the Dolphins at either position.

39. Jacksonville Jaguars - Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson:

With zero career interceptions, you can either look at Mackensie Alexander of Clemson as a lock down corner, or you can look at him as somebody who lacks ball skills. While Alexander has borderline 1st round talent, his lack of maturity and questions about his ability to immediately transition to the NFL as a stand alone corner will likely knock him back into the 2nd round.

40. New York Giants - Austin Johnson, DT, Penn State

The Giants need to solidify their front seven on defense, and if they could add an established defensive end in a deep free agency class, as well as a middle linebacker in the 1st round of the draft, there should be plenty of talented defensive tackles available in the top half of the 2nd round to help totally revamp their defense.

41. Chicago Bears - Adolphus Washington, DT, Ohio State:

The Bears need playmakers on defense, and Adolphus Washington of Ohio State brings some skills as a pass rusher from the defensive tackle position that Chicago hasn't had since Henry Melton.

42. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Kendall Fuller, S, Virginia Tech:

Tampa Bay is looking to revamp their secondary, and an athletic free safety like Kendall Fuller of Virginia Tech would add some much needed quickness to the mix, and could help form a long term duo if the Buccaneers are able to grab corner Vernon Hargreaves in the 1st round.

43. Los Angeles Rams - Tyler Boyd, WR, Pitt:

Regardless of who the Rams' quarterback is, they need a go to wide receiver. Tyler Boyd was thought to be a solid 2nd round prospect heading into the draft process, and then turned in an amazing performance at the Senior Bowl.

44. Oakland Raiders - Jaylon Smith, LB, Notre Dame:

Jaylon Smith went from being the potential #1 overall pick, to falling off several team's draft boards altogether. With his 2016 season likely a complete loss, the Raiders are the one team who might take a flyer on a top rated talent like Smith.

45. Los Angeles Rams - Carl Nassib, DE, Penn State:

The Rams need a replacement for Kyle Long at defensive end. Carl Nassib is kind of a poor man's version of long. While he may need time to develop into the thick base end that Long was, Nassib shows more promise as a pass rusher.

46. Detroit Lions - Jeremy Cash, S, Duke:

The Lions are expected to make a run at free agent safety George Iloka. In the event that he re-signs with Cincinnati or ends up going to another team, Detroit will need to find a potential starter in this year's draft.

47. New Orleans Saints - Jalen Mills, CB/S, LSU:

The Saints hit gold with street free agent Delvin Breaux, but could still stand to add some talent in order to stabilize their secondary. Jalen Mills of LSU can play safety or corner, but would probably be looked at as a corner by the Saints.

48. Indianapolis Colts - Jonathan Jones, CB, Auburn

Auburn cornerback Jonathan Jones cemented his status as a 2nd round pick with a blazing 4.29 time in the 40 yard dash at the Scouting Combine.

49. Buffalo Bills - Deion Jones, OLB, LSU:

Deion Lewis is the new breed of NFL linebacker. While he's a bit undersized, he's fast and can cover ground from sideline to sideline. Given the Bills' massive defensive front to protect him, Lewis could be a perfect addition to Rex Ryan's defense.

50. Atlanta Falcons - Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State:

The Falcons desperately are in need of edge rushers, and while Shilique Calhoun may not yet be a three down NFL player, he certainly fits the bill as a situational speed rusher who can develop over time into an every down player.

51. New York Jets - Le'Raven Clark, T, Texas Tech

A right tackle to play opposite D'Brickashaw Ferguson would help lay the foundation for a better running game. A young running back in the 3rd or 4th round to replace Chris Ivory would further build upon that foundation.

52. Houston Texans - Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State:

The Texans need a new bell cow running back to move the chains after cutting ties with Arian Foster. Ezekiel Foster may not be elite, but he has the initial burst to make it through the line and power to gain a few extra yards thereafter.

53. Washington Redskins - Nick Martin, T/G, Notre Dame

Like last year's 1st round pick, Brandon Scherff, Nick Martin of Notre Dame could play guard or right tackle in the NFL. By solidifying their offensive line, Washington could make life much easier on a savvy, yet weak armed quarterback like Kirk Cousins.

54. Minnesota Vikings - Darian Thomas, S, Boise State:

A play making safety to play opposite of Harrison Smith would help neutralize division rival Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

55. Cincinnati Bengals - Jayron Kearse, S, Clemson:

The Bengals approach this off season with three quarters of their secondary heading to free agency. Whether it's a corner or a safety, Cincinnati will need to add at least one defensive back to the mix, and possibly move some other players around from safety to corner. The Bengals could lose both starting safeties in Reggie Nelson and George Iloka in free agency.

56. Seattle Seahawks - Shon Coleman, T, Auburn:

Depending on what happens with Russell Okung, Seattle could be in the market for a starting tackle. Shon Coleman of Auburn not only projects as a long term left tackle in the NFL, but he also has experience playing guard, so he would be able to contribute even if the Seahawks are able retain Okung.

57. Green Bay Packers - Kyle Murphy, T/G, Stanford:

The Packers don't have an elite offensive line, and when injuries hit, Aaron Rogers becomes vulnerable. A versatile lineman like Kyle Murphy of Stanford could not only provide Green Bay with a potential long term starter, but he could fill in as needed at tackle or guard in the case of a major injury.

58. Pittsburgh Steelers - Jordan Jenkins, DE/OLB, Georgia:

The Steelers are always looking to find a 'tweener at outside in their 3-4 scheme, and while James Harrison is returning for what is probably his final season, Pittsburgh could use some more depth in the pool to ultimately replace him.

59. Kansas City Chiefs - Vonn Bell, S, Ohio State:

The Chiefs could use a starting caliber safety to play opposite Eric Berry.

60. New England Patriots - Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio State:

New England was thin at receiver even before they released Brandon LaFell. Michael Thomas of Ohio State is a big possession receiver who could help take some pressure off of Julian Edelman and return him the complimentary role that he is better suited for.

61. Arizona Cardinals - Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State:

The Cardinals may have bigger immediate needs at quarterback, but Drew Stanton is a free agent, Carson Palmer isn't getting any younger, and who better is there to work with a young developmental signal caller than Bruce Arians?

62. Denver Broncos - Kentrell Brothers, MLB, Missouri:

With Danny Trevathan likely a salary cap casualty as Denver addresses other needs as he heads towards free agency, the Broncos will need to find a cheaper replacement.

63. Carolina Panthers - Germaine Ifedi, T, Texas A&M:

Germaine Ifedi could quickly develop into a starter after first providing some offensive line depth in Carolina.

2015 NFL Mock Draft - 2nd Round

Here is my revised 2nd round 2015 NFL Mock Draft, as compiled immediately after the 1st round ended.

My mock draft has been linked by DC Pro Sports ReportWalter FootballFF ToolboxThe Huddle ReportEDS FootballNFL Pro Zach and Boyds Bets in their Mock Draft Databases, so check out all of their fantastic draft related materials and content.

2nd Round

33. Tennessee Titans - Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Missouri:

While the Titans have a nice collection of solid receivers, a big go-to receiver like Dorial Green-Beckham could be a game changer, off the field issues aside.

34. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - T.J. Clemmings, T, Pittsburgh:

In addition to quarterback, the area where Tampa Bay could most stand to upgrade is on their offensive line. T.J. Clemmings of Pittsburgh ultimately projects as a starter at tackle on the left side, which is the position of biggest concern on the Buccaneers' line.

35. Oakland Raiders - Mario Edwards, Jr. Florida State:

A big defensive lineman like Mario Edwards, Jr. of Florida State would give the Raiders some valuable flexibility, as he has the versatility to move around the defensive line and exploit the weaknesses of their opponents' offensive lines.

36. Jacksonville Jaguars - Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana:

Everyone except for Denard Robinson seems to realize that he and Toby Gerhart are not viable starting running backs. While Melvin Gordon got all of the hype, many Big Ten insiders consider Tevin Coleman of Indiana the better pro prospect, and that's not a knock on Gordon.

37. New York Jets - Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor:

The Jets desperately need a franchise quarterback. While he has a first round arm, Bryce Petty is probably more of a second round investment coming out of a non-pro style system at Baylor.

38. Washington Redskins - Eli Harold, OLB, Virginia:

Washington could use a pass rush specialist to replace Brian Orakpo. Eli Harold of Virginia would be an ideal fit at outside linebacker in their modified 3-4 scheme.

39. Chicago Bears - Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State:

While the Bears may draft for talent in the first round, they have to address some needs in the second round and beyond. They have no bigger need than stopping the run, and Eddie Goldman of Florida State could plug the center as the nose tackle in their new 3-4 defensive scheme.

40. New York Giants - Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State:

The Giants need to improve their once feared pass rush, and Preston Smith of Mississippi State is a strong defensive end much in the mold of Justin Tuck.

41. St. Louis Rams - Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon

After bypassing the top offensive linemen in the first round, the Rams are in desperate need of help on their offensive line. They better pray that somebody like Jake Fisher is still available when they pick in the second.

42. Atlanta Falcons - Donovan Smith, T, Penn State:

Atlanta is looking at upgrading their tackles, and may even take one in the first round. In the event that they don't, Donovan Smith of Penn State would be a solid bookend opposite Jake Matthews.

43. Cleveland Browns - Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State:

With Josh Gordon suspended, the Browns need to re-stock their receiving corps. Devin Smith of Ohio State is not only a speed wide receiver who can take the top off of opposing defenses, but he's got fantastic ball skills as well.

44. New Orleans Saints - Nate Orchard, OLB, Utah:

A high motor 'tweener like Nate Orchard of Utah would be an ideal fit in New Orleans as Rob Ryan and the Saints transition from a 3-4 to more of a hybrid defense.

45. Minnesota Vikings - Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State:

Adrian Peterson is not likely going anywhere, as Minnesota is one of the few teams able to cover his $12 million salary cap hit, and no team in their right mind would give up a first round pick for a 30-year old running back with bad knees that hasn't played in a year. With that said, the Vikings still need to find a running back to serve as Peterson's successor, or as a backup plan in case he holds out.

46. San Francisco 49'ers - Eric Kendricks, ILB, UCLA:

The 49'ers could have withstood the retirement of Patrick Willis had Chris Borland not also unexpectedly retired after his rookie season. Eric Kendricks of UCLA would give San Francisco an athletic partner to compliment Navarro Bowman at inside linebacker.

47. Miami Dolphins - P. J. Williams, CB, Florida State:

Despite signing Ndamukong Suh, the Dolphins still have weaknesses at nearly every level of their defense. If a top notch cover corner like P.J. Williams is still available when they pick in the second round, it would be a no-brainer, even in spite of concerns about his alcohol abuse.

48. San Diego Chargers - Bernardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State:

Looking to upgrade their defense, the Chargers are rumored to have a strong interest in linebacker Benardrick McKinney of Mississippi State.

49. Kansas City Chiefs - Paul Dawson, ILB, TCU

Playing low scoring ball control football with Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs can't afford to have many weaknesses on defense. Paul Dawson of TCU would upgrade a position of need for the Chiefs like linebacker.

50. Buffalo Bills - Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA:

With E.J. Manuel and Matt Cassel currently the only options at quarterback for the Bills, Rex Ryan is in no better position as coach in Buffalo than he was with the Jets. While Manuel or Cassel might be able to buy the team a year or so of mediocre football, the Bills desperately need to find a quarterback to develop as a long term starter.

51. Houston Texans - Landon Collins, S, Alabama:

By adding Landon Collins to Kevin Johnson, the Texans would be upgrading 50 percent of their secondary.

52. Philadelphia Eagles - Jalen Collins, CB, LSU:

On the bright side for Chip Kelly, by missing out on Marcus Mariota the Eagles still have draft picks to address the multiple needs that that the team has, such as cornerback.

53. Cincinnati Bengals - Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE, UCLA:

The Bengals need a base defensive end to help them contain the run. Owamagbe Odighizuwa of UCLA would be an ideal fit, allowing the undersized Michael Johnson to be used only on passing downs.

54. Detroit Lions - Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State

At some point in the draft the Lions will need to draft a defensive tackle who can immediately step in and play. Michael Bennett is a bit underrated given his on the field production against some elite competition at Ohio State, and the Lions are thought to be very high on him, as they are Xavier Cooper of Washington State.

55. Arizona Cardinals - Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State:

The Cardinals' defense has taken some huge hits during the offseason with key losses at defensive end, nose tackle and cornerback. Ronald Darby of Florida State is an under the radar, but top talent at corner, who would eventually help lock down the Cardinals' secondary playing opposite of Patrick Peterson.

56. Pittsburgh Steelers - Eric Rowe, CB, Utah:

The Steelers would be wise to address their secondary, and Eric Rowe of Utah has the talent and the character that the Rooney family is looking for.

57. Carolina Panthers - Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State:

The Panthers need to give Cam Newton another weapon, and Jaelen Strong would provide him with another big target opposite of Kelvin Benjamin.

58. Baltimore Ravens - Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota:

Whether it's at wide receiver or tight end, the Ravens desperately need another target for Joe Flacco. Late in the second round, Maxx Williams would be a value pick who would finally give the team another go-to tight end in the mold of Shannon Sharpe and Todd Heap.

59. Denver Broncos - Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma:

The Broncos need a space eating nose tackle to replace "Porkchop" Womack, and Jordan Phillips of Oklahoma would be an ideal fit.

60. Dallas Cowboys - Carl Davis, DT, Iowa:

Dallas has needs across the board on defense, but perhaps none more glaring than on the interior of their defensive line. Carl Davis of Iowa is talented but raw, which could make Rod Marinelli earn his reputation as a defensive line talent developer and “leader of men.”

61. Indianapolis Colts - Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska:

The Colts need to upgrade and add depth to their pass rush, and while there are many off the field concerns swirling around Randy Gregory right now, landing a top ten talent late in the second round may be too tempting to pass up.

62. Green Bay Packers - Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami:

The Packers need to get more athletic at middle linebacker, and Denzel Perryman  of Miami would fit that bill.

63. Seattle Seahawks - La'el Collins, T, LSU:

If La'el Collins isn't selected early in this year's draft, and hypothetically assuming that he didn't have his pregnant ex-girlfriend murdered, I would sit this season out and re-enter the 2016 draft rather than sign a late round rookie contract. If Seattle is willing to gamble, and it would be a huge gamble, Collins could fill a huge need at guard.

64. New England Patriots - A.J. Cann, OG, South Carolina:

The Patriots played a huge hole on their offensive line last season after trading Logan Mankins to Tampa Bay. They are said to be very interested in A.J. Cann of South Carolina, and they have plenty of ammunition in terms of picks if they feel like they need to move up to get him.

Final 2015 NFL Mock Draft

Here is my Pre-Draft 2015 NFL Mock Draft. It will be followed by a my updates heading into the NFL Draft on April 30th.

This is not a mock draft where I substitute my judgement for that of the teams. Instead, I research the opinions of those who most closely know teams, NFL scouts, insiders and beat writers from all of the NFL cities, and try to make the most educated prediction as to which way each team will go in the draft.

My mock draft has been linked by DC Pro Sports ReportWalter FootballFF ToolboxThe Huddle ReportEDS FootballNFL Pro Zach and Boyds Bets in their Mock Draft Databases, so check out all of their fantastic draft related materials and content.

1st Round

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State:

Coming from a pro-style offense and possessing the stronger arm, Jameis Winston has the edge between the sidelines. With higher character and better decision making on and off the field, Marcus Mariota has the edge between the ear holes. When in doubt, NFL GM's typically go with the stronger arm, especially considering Winston's moxie and leadership.

2. Philadelphia Eagles (projected trade with the Tennessee Titans) – Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon:

Chip Kelly is just crazy enough to make a trade for Marcus Mariota happen.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars  Leonard Williams, DE, USC:

The Jaguars would really like a defensive end or an outside linebacker to play the "LEO" position in their 4-3 scheme. Leonard Williams of USC probably projects best in a 4-3 defense at tackle, but also has the athleticism to play outside at defensive end. That would allow the Jaguars to move Williams around and match him up against each opponent's weakest blocker.

4. Oakland Raiders -Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

The Raiders still have all kinds of needs, but giving Derek Carr a legitimate go-to wide receiver has to be at the top of their list. Amari Cooper has already demonstrated elite hands and route running skills at Alabama against top notch competition, and therefore gets the edge over Kevin White, who is more athletic, but is also less polished.

5. Atlanta Falcons (projected trade with the Washington Redskins) – Dante Fowler, Jr., DE, Florida:

The Redskins may be looking to move their pick, and new Atlanta coach Dan Quinn has an interest in moving up to select Dante Fowler, Jr., whom he coached when he was defensive coordinator at the University of Florida.

6. New Orleans Saints (projected trade with the New York Jets) - Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson:

New Orleans needs to upgrade their pass rush, and could make a move to land an elite outside linebacker like Vic Beasley of Clemson.

7. Chicago Bears – Kevin White, WR, West Virginia:

The Bears need a receiver to replace Brandon Marshall, and a speedy wideout with elite ball skills like Kevin White of West Virginia would be the perfect compliment to Alshon Jeffery.

8. Washington Redskins (projected trade with the Atlanta Falcons) - Brandon Scherff, T/G, Iowa:

The Redskins are shopping their first round pick. In the event that they do trade back, Washington is thought to have an interest in Brandon Scherff of Iowa to play right tackle.

9. New York Giants – Ereck Flowers, T, Miami:

The Giants would be best served by finding a right tackle in the draft and moving Justin Pugh inside to guard. They are said to have an interest in Ereck Flowers of Miami, which could allow them to trade down and pick up an additional pick or two.

10. St. Louis Rams – Andrus Peat, T, Stanford:

The Rams have needs on their offensive line. Andrus Peat of Stanford has the versatility to play either left or right tackle as Greg Robinson tries and find his forever home.

11. Minnesota Vikings – Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State:

After solidifying their receiving corps by trading for Mike Wallace, the Vikings can concentrate on upgrading their defense with their top pick. Trae Waynes, who lead Michigan State's vaunted "No Fly Zone" secondary, would be an ideal value selection at a position of need.

12. Cleveland Browns – Danny Shelton, DT, Washington:

The Browns need a run stuffing defensive lineman, and there's none better in this year's draft than Danny Shelton of Washington. The only question is whether they pull the trigger on him at No. 12 at the expense of taking a top receiver, or if they'll gamble that he's still available when they pick again at No. 19.

13. New York Jets (projected trade with the New Orleans Saints) - Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia:

While the Jets could use an upgrade at outside linebacker, they may be inclined to move back and acquire more picks if they can't land Dante Fowler, Jr. Todd Gurley of Georgia would give Todd Bowles an elite running back to take some pressure off of Geno Smith and give the team a true ground and pound identity.

14. Miami Dolphins – DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville:

Despite some secondary offseason moves, the Dolphins still need a true go-to wide receiver. DeVante Parker is getting less hype than Amari Cooper and Kevin White, but may end up being just as good.

15. San Francisco 49ers – Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon:

The free agent signing of Darnell Dockett should replace the loss of defensive end Ray McDonald, but the possible retirement of Justin Smith still leaves a huge hole on the other side of the 49'ers once dominant defensive line. An athletic end like Arik Armstead of Oregon would help San Francisco re-tool.

16. Houston Texans Alvin "Bud" Dupree, DE, Kentucky:

Sadly, just one year after using the number one overall pick on Jadeveon Clowney, the Texans need to find an insurance policy, if not his replacement. With the defensive ends/outside linebackers who do not have off the field concerns seeing their draft value sky rocket, Houston is keeping their fingers crossed that the versatile Alvin "Bud" Dupree of Kentucky will still be available.

17. San Diego Chargers – Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin:

Melvin Gordon of Wisconsin will remind Chargers fans more of the touchdowns and long runs from the LaDanian Tomlinson era than the tears and pulled hamstrings of the Ryan Mathews era.

18. Kansas City Chiefs – Cameron Erving, C, Florida State:

After losing starting center Rodney Hudson to the Raiders in free agency, the Chiefs will need to look to the draft to fill that hole. Cameron Erving of Florida State is the highest rated center in this year's draft, and would help keep Jamaal Charles in the fast lane.

19. Cleveland Browns – Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida:

The Browns need a speed threat to replace Josh Gordon, and perhaps there's never been anybody faster in college football than Breshad Perriman of Central Florida. While he needs some work on his hands, Perriman is a big receiver who has the ability to take it to the house each and every time he touches the ball.

20. Tennessee Titans (projected trade with the Philadelphia Eagles)
 – Mario Edwards, Jr. Florida State:

By trading away the right to select Marcus Mariota, the Titans could land a slew of draft picks and still get a versatile 3-4 defensive end like Mario Edwards, Jr. of Florida State.

21. Cincinnati Bengals - Malcom Brown, DT, Texas:

Cincinnati is looking for help at nose tackle to play alongside Geno Atkins. Malcom Brown of Texas is a rare talent, who at 320 pounds is strong enough to stuff the run, but athletic enough to be a presence as a pass rusher.

22. Pittsburgh Steelers - Landon Collins, S, Alabama:

Pittsburgh needs a 3-4 defensive end, but all of the first round graded prospects could be off the board by the time they are on the clock at No. 22. In that case, the Steelers would be wise to address their secondary, and Landon Collins of Alabama would be the ideal choice to replace Troy Polamalu.

23. Detroit Lions - D.J. Humphries, LT, Florida:

Despite a huge need at defensive tackle, Martin Mayhew will still take a best player available approach to the draft. The Lions are looking to upgrade their offensive line, and perhaps no position other than quarterback is valued higher than left tackle. That puts a player like D.J. Humphries of Florida right in their wheelhouse.

24. Arizona Cardinals - Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri:

The Cardinals would be ecstatic to land an elite power back like Todd Gurley to help move the chains and take some pressure off of Carson Palmer, but they are also looking to upgrade their pass rush. If the top two running backs are off the board, look for the Cardinals to take a gamble on Shane Ray, who could fall to the later part of the first round after being cited for marijuana possession earlier this week.

25. Carolina Panthers Nelson Agholor, WR, USC:

The Panthers need to give Cam Newton a competent speed receiver to play opposite of Kelvin Benjamin. Nelson Agholor of USC is versatile enough to play inside or outside, which is exactly what Carolina needs.

26. Baltimore Ravens - Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State:

Another GM who always takes a “best player available” approach to the draft is Ozzie Newsome, but Baltimore also has a huge need at wide receiver. The Ravens will need to determine if need meets value with a receiver like Devin Smith, who some see as a second round prospect, while others view him as the best deep threat in the draft.

27. Dallas Cowboys Byron Jones, CB, UConn:

Dallas would probably prefer to add a big pass rusher, but if all of the elite defensive linemen are off the board by the time they pick, they may turn to Byron Jones of UConn. Jones has the size needed to be a solid tackler in the NFL, which is an essential trait for a corner in Rod Marinelli's "Tampa-Two" defense.

28. Denver Broncos T.J. Clemmings, T, Pittsburgh:

As Peyton Manning comes back for one last run at the Super Bowl, the Broncos need to turn their attention to protecting their aging star. A right tackle like T.J. Clemmings of Pittsburgh would allow Louis Vasquez to return back to guard, where he was a former Pro Bowl player.

29. Indianapolis Colts - Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State:

After parting ways with LaRon Landry, who was more bulk than bite, the Colts are in desperate need of an upgrade at safety. Damarious Randall of Arizona State is one of the few players who project as a starter at safety in this year's draft, and seems to have worked his way into being a first round consideration.

30. Green Bay Packers - Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson

The Packers are in desperate need of a middle linebacker to upgrade their 3-4 defense. Stephone Anthony of Clemson is a prototype inside backer, and would be an athletic upgrade over A.J. Hawk.

31. New Orleans Saints Eric Kendricks, ILB, UCLA:

The Jimmy Graham trade was all about giving the Saints more cap flexibility to improve their defense. Eric Kendricks of UCLA addressed concerns about his speed at the Scouting Combine and his Pro Day, making him one of the top inside linebackers in the draft, which is a key position of need for New Orleans.

32. New England Patriots - Marcus Peters, CB, Washington:

The Patriots have needs at defensive tackle and guard, but perhaps no need is more glaring than cornerback, where they lost two elite starters from last year's Super Bowl team. Despite some questions about his character, Marcus Peters of Washington is the perfect combination of cover skills and Scouting Combine measurables that NFL GM's drool over.

2nd Round

33. Tennessee Titans - Eli Harold, OLB, Virginia:

In addition to defensive end, the Titans need to upgrade their pass rush. Eli Harold is an underrated prospect who fits the profile of a prototypical 3-4 outside linebacker.

34. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon:

In addition to quarterback, the area where Tampa Bay could most stand to upgrade is on their offensive line. Jake Fisher of Oregon ultimately projects as a starter at tackle on the left side, which is the position of biggest concern on the Buccaneers' line.

35. Oakland Raiders - Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State:

A big defensive tackle like Eddie Goldman would give the Raiders a huge wall to help shut down opposing running games.

38. Washington Redskins - Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest::

Cornerback is an issue for the Redskins, as Dante Hall is on the wrong side of thirty and trying to come back from a serious Achilles injury. Kevin Johnson is a bit slight in build when it comes to an NFL corner, but he has elite cover skills and technique.

39. Chicago Bears - Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma:

While the Bears may draft for talent in the first round, they have to address some needs in the second round and beyond. They have no bigger need than stopping the run, and Jordan Phillips of Oklahoma could plug the center as the nose tackle in their new 3-4 defensive scheme.

40. New York Giants - Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State:

The Giants need to improve their once feared pass rush, and Preston Smith of Mississippi State is a strong defensive end much in the mold of Justin Tuck.

41. St. Louis Rams - Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State

St. Louis is in the market for a go-to receiver. If they don't select DeVante Parker in the first round, Jaelen Strong is a big possession receiver who could fill that role in round two.

42. Atlanta Falcons - Cedric Ogbuehi, T, Texas A&M:

Atlanta is looking at upgrading their tackles, and may even take one in the first round. In the event that they don't, Cedric Ogbuehi would be a solid bookend opposite Jake Matthews, much like they were at Texas A&M.

43. Cleveland Browns - Donovan Smith, T, Penn State:

In addition to a defensive tackle and a wide receiver, the Browns are in the market for a right tackle. Donovan Smith of Penn State is an under the radar pick that some scouts are very high on given his versatility to play either tackle or guard.

44. New Orleans Saints - Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami:

The Saints need to give Drew Brees another weapon to help replace Jimmy Graham. New Orleans is believed to have an interest in speedy wide receiver Phillip Dorsett of Miami, who along with Brandin Cooks would help Brees improve the deep passing game that he's struggled with in recent years.

46. San Francisco 49'ers - Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami:

The 49'ers could have withstood the retirement of Patrick Willis had Chris Borland not also unexpectedly retired after his rookie season. Denzel Perryman of Miami would give San Francisco an athletic partner to compliment Navarro Bowman at inside linebacker.

49. Kansas City Chiefs - Shaq Thompson, S/LB/RB, Washington

Playing low scoring ball control football with Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs can't afford to have many weaknesses on defense. Shaq Thompson of Washington would be an athletic upgrade at a position of need for the Chiefs like linebacker, or even at safety.

51. Houston Texans - Jalen Collins, CB, LSU:

With Jonathan Joseph getting up there in age, the Texans need to get younger and deeper at cornerback. With rumors of failed drug tests in college, Jalen Collins is another first round talent who could see himself slide into the second round. On the plus side for both parties, failed drug tests in college do not put a player in the NFL's drug program.

52. Philadelphia Eagles - Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Missouri:

Dorial Green-Beckham is yet another first round talent who's off the field issues could cause him to fall to the second round. With the Eagles not having a viable starting receiver on their roster, he may be worth the risk towards the end of the second round.

56. Pittsburgh Steelers - Nate Orchard, OLB, Utah:

After the sudden retirement of Jason Worilds, the Steelers are desperately thin at what may be the most important position in their 3-4 defense. Nate Orchard of Utah is a classic 'tweener' who would fit in perfectly at outside linebacker for Pittsburgh.

57. Carolina Panthers - La'el Collins, T/G, LSU:

The Panthers signed Michael Oher as a stopgap measure to protect Cam Newton's blind side, but he isn't a long term answer at left tackle. If one of the top ranked tackles like La'El Collins falls to them at No. 25, the Panthers will be ecstatic, even if it takes him a year or so to move over to the left side. Then again, Collins is being questioned in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, which raises a red flag.

59. Denver Broncos - Paul Dawson, ILB, TCU:

Denver is looking to upgrade their linebacker corps, and either Benardrick McKinney of Mississippi State or Paul Dawson of TCU would be ideal fits that the team is said to be interested in.

62. Green Bay Packers - Eric Rowe, CB, Utah:

In addition to inside linebacker, the Packers need to find another top notch cover corner like Eric Rowe of Utah, who would help replace Tramon Williams.

63. Seattle Seahawks - Laken Tomlinson, G, Duke:

After trading All Pro center Max Unger for Jimmy Graham and losing James Carpenter to free agency, the Seahawks need to rebuild the interior of their offensive line. Laken Tomlinson of Duke would possibly give them the best guard in the draft.

64. New England Patriots - A.J. Cann, OG, South Carolina:

The Patriots played a huge hole on their offensive line last season after trading Logan Mankins to Tampa Bay. They are said to be very interested in A.J. Cann of South Carolina.
